I am leading an effort, together with a group of fellow students, to launch a new "Critical NLP" interest group at the University of Toronto. The idea is to shift NLP beyond the dominant heuristic practice by grounding it in rigorous theoretical and interdisciplinary discourse. Our aim is to foster dialogue shaped by diverse fields, encouraging critical reflection, shared learning, and the development of more socially grounded perspectives and methods in NLP.
As part of this initiative, we will be organizing focused discussions and inviting scholars and practitioners from a wide range of disciplines to rethink prevailing paradigms in NLP—especially those surrounding LLMs. More updates coming soon here!
